Kenzie Academy is a coding bootcamp with courses open to San Francisco residents online. This coding bootcamp offers classes in software engineering, digital marketing, and user experience (UX) engineering, and offers students an opportunity to take a part-time technical support job while completing coursework. The job opportunity offered by Kenzie Academy is a work-from-home position, so location is not an issue for most students. The part-time job program, along with income share agreements, is part of Kenzie Academy’s goal to reduce the financial burden of getting an education.
Unlike some other online coding bootcamps, Kenzie Academy’s remote program is not self-paced. Students must commit to (and attend) online courses full-time during the day for most programs. The software engineering and user experience engineering classes take place from 9 AM to 5 PM (EDT) Monday through Friday, but students with family or work commitments are permitted to dismiss themselves at 3:00 PM. For San Francisco students, classes occur from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, with dismissal at noon for students with other obligations. Programs last either six months or a year, except digital marketing which is six months only.
Kenzie Academy has more than a dozen employment partners, and the institution publishes some student outcome data on its website. The site claims that the majority of its students received a job offer prior to graduation and that their average salaries were between $55,000 and $90,000 annually.
Kenzie Academy’s coding bootcamp programs range in price, but they do offer a free course called ‘Kenzie Free.’ The lowest-priced course offered by Kenzie Academy is its digital marketing bootcamp. The digital marketing course starts at $13,500 upfront, but financing and income share agreements are also available for this course. Students either finance tuition through Kenzie’s payment plan, or they can opt for the income share agreement with a down-payment or ‘commitment fee’ of $100. The income share agreement for this program requires a commitment of 17.5% of student income for 25 months after landing a job. Students can choose to pay off Kenzie Academy’s income share agreements early or opt for a half-ISA on some programs. Kenzie Academy’s software engineering and user experience engineering programs cost $13,500 for the six-month program and $24,000 for the year-long program upfront, $2,150 per month, or 17.5% of post-employment income for four years through the income share agreement. For these programs, students can opt for the half-ISA for $12,000 down—the half-ISA ends in 25 months instead of four years.
